Hi people.
Do me a favor. NAKED! what comes to mind?
To many they may think of someone in their birthday suit streaking. Others may think of the naked molerat (Gary). But i want you to think of something deeper, like under the surface, like the center of an onion. Do you follow? In other words, the bare truth.
This week's novel is a memoir. Naked by David Sedaris. This book doesn't really have a story line I can explain, its more of a series of mini stories. The basic background is David's childhood and the many quarky memories that fall there. He is born into a wealthy family. His mother is an extremely aggressive woman with a lot to say. She is not a typical mother, she is blunt and educates her six children to smart and never fall into the hands of miming or another low paying job. His father is a golf-obsessed man that is on a mission to covert his children. David's siblings are well, weird.
David is not your average cookie. David would lick anything his mind told him to. He would could all three hundred twenty seven steps home, and if he missed a step, he'd go back to school and start again. On his way home, he'd sniff the neighbor's newspaper, lick someone's land nome or hug a tree. It was his ritual. At home, David would lick ALL the light switches angle everything on his desk perfectly, color coordinate all his clothing, and scream loudly within his throat (he though no one could hear him).
One of my favorite stories, in the Sedaris' household was, there was a period in time in which somone would wipe their butts with the bathroom towels. It wasn't until everyone took a shower and wrapped their heads around the towl did they notice that it was sioled and stinky. The never did find who it was.
An odd hobby that was put to a halt was his rocking. Sedaris would rock in his bed to achieve a sense of relaxation. He started it when he was young and stopped until he was about in college, when his roomate mistakened the rocking for masterbation. ("knock it off romeo!")
This book is filled with weird happenings. I REALLY recommend it. Its a fun book that can make you burst into laughter and just forget about everything else. I would say that by far, this is the best humor book that i have ever came across. Read it poeple! i have a a copy if you would like to borrow it.
bye byes!

Wait, is Sedaris' father god obsessed or golf obsessed?
Wow, that does sound funny. I need to read it now. How did you come across this book?
Why do people always compare unconvering the truth with an onion center? Why not compare it with eating a grapefruit or a promogate or something completely and totally not related to food?
This book really sounds fun and I have read a little of it (from you). Besides the point that it is a good book, you explained in a very entertaining manner. It really looks as If you really enjoyed this book.I love reading your blogs because you know how to choose the right book to descript.
diana,
the first time that you mentioned this book, i thought that it was this sick book about people being naked and actually liking it. but when you told me what it was about i thought that it would be very interesting because thee author chose this title that could mean something else. based on what you have read, why do you think the author chose this title?
Bonjour Mrs. Diana
I just read your post on the novel Naked. I must say this novel sounds unique. I say this because I have known novels to be boring books that talk about the story of a person’s life. By your description of this book you have changed my views. I am not much of a reader and well find reading to be very time consuming and boring, but with your description of this book and the humor that it gives you have encouraged me to actually gain some interest in a book. Amazing isn’t it, me encouraged to read? I am usually able to find the positives and wonders on the things round me, but never before on a book.
As I read your blog I wondered how this book was. You explained that it is a novel, which is a fictional narrative about a person, but then you said that the story has different stories within the book. Now how do these stories go and bond with the main character that the novel is about. I would highly appreciate if you can go deeper and maybe clarify that next time.
Thank You

egads! you have never heard of Robert Frost?
........i don't know what to say......
Hi Diana/Cutie,
You were right, when you asked what comes in mind when you think the word naked.... for me it was somebody in their birthday suit. But lets leave that one for later on. Anyways this seems to be a weird book. Yeah I have that same question as vanessa is he golf obsessed or god obsessed because it would sound really weird if someone tries to convert somebody into golf. I would recommend you to watch your grammatical mistakes because in some sentences you say words weirdly like this sentence: The never did find who it was.
You could of said they never found who did it/who it was. Well anyways this seems like a book that I would read. That's gross that they never noticed that they had poop in their heads. Well anyways good job i see that you seem to be giving better examples of better books in each blog... so are you going to let me borrow the book about the baseball player. Good job and when you say TORTAS say it with more enthusiasm like slowmo. Bye cutie
hello diana,
i read your blog and i liked the way you started it. Especially when you made the word bold and asking what we think about it. I think it caught my attention 1st before reading the blog and making me think what this book is about.
I find this book weird and yet interesting because it sounds funny how walks home and counts his step then if he misses one he goes back and starts over. Then he sniffs the neighbor's newspaper then licks light switches then he hugs a tree like u said lol. i think its weird but its funny in a way. Anyways im looking forward to hearing other books from you and good job =)
Diana,
To me novels could be boring since I dont enjoy reading.
After I read your blog I was actually interested in knowing more about the book.
As well as some of my peers have mentioned: why do you think the author choosed such a tile?
Overall, good job!
Dear Diana,
After reading the summary of the book you read it was pretty interesting and its kind of weird. Did his family have any issues that caused him to do those kind of things? How did you feel when you were reading this book? How come he just didn't call it "Memoir" and decided to call it "Naked"? This is a question that seems some of our fellow classmates wants to know. It was a really good blog and I wonder what you will talk about next.
I like the comment you post me. I think i should focus one only one picture only. If i focus in other pictures this could cause confusion. While reading your comment and idea of how to do my next blog came to my head and i think i am going to go ahead and do it. I wont tell you what it is but, i am goin to have it in my next blog. You could go ahead and have a look at it and tell me what you think.
Dear Diana,
I like to compliment you on how you hooked me in the first paragraph. And the story seems weird, because the mother is really aggressive but yet she cares for their education. Is it because she might be afraid on what other people might say about her if her children are not well educated, or is that she does care about her children’s future? And when you put “He could count all three-hundred steps home, and if he missed a step he’d go back to school and start again.” The first thing that came to my mind when I read this was that it’s sort of related when people make mistakes and they start from the beginning until they get things right. In your favorite stories was there no punishment for all the children? Seems as if there was no order around the house hold. David’s hobby by rocking in his bed for relaxation, what did he do for relaxation after he stopped? Also if we look at this in different point of view we also might think that he was crazy or a psychopath.
Sincerely,
Masyeli M.
